    Dear Princess Project,

I love what you guys do. You have an amazing program!

I live in the local bay area and I’m excited to help my little sister finally attend her “senior” prom. My sister has been talking about getting tickets to go to her old high school’s prom with her friends but she knows that my mom can’t afford a regular prom dress.

You see, our mother was hit by a semi truck when my sister was just a baby and I was only seven. Since then she hasn’t worked, so my two younger sisters and I were raised on welfare and food stamps and lived in section 8 housing. Our father isn’t in our lives either, so we’d also get child support checks.

Being so poor made fitting in at school hard. I think the other kids couldn’t understand why we couldn’t go to the dances like they could. I never attended any of my high school dances, and I regret never having been to prom. It would mean the world to me to be able to give my little sister that chance. <3

Unfortunately, because my sister is in an alternative education program, she does not actually receive a school ID and there isn't enough time to get her a state issued one in time to take part in your wonderful program.

Isn't there any way that she can still get a prom dress to fulfill her dream of going to prom? :(

    Sincerely,

    Big Sister <3

  9. carolyn says:

  13. carolyn says:

    Hi Gina,
Unfortunately we only allow high school teens who are looking for prom dresses, not graduation dresses. Come back and see us when you are ready for prom!

  14. carolyn says:

Please have your school or organization email cheries@princessproject.org for more information on our giveaways. Please have them send a link to their website or contact info so we can get back to you on attending. Thank you!

  15. falahola says:

im am attending saturday but what are the requirements to get a dress

  16. Laura Graham says:

Last year I started a charity called 1 Closet, collecting gently used clothing for low income teenagers. I live in Oakland and with my mom’s help I have donated over 2000 garments to teens in need. A dress shop in our area just gave me ~10 formal street length dresses, they are larger sizes. Can you let me know if I can donate them to you, I only collect teen basics. Hope you check me out on facebook at 1Closet. Thank you!!

  17. Rachel G. says:

    Hi Falahola –

We received your e-mail via our newsletter inbox, as well. But, to confirm, you need a valid 2011-2012 high school ID to attend.

If you don’t have that available, then please bring your transcript plus a photo ID (like a driver’s license to verify your identity) or any other kind of proof of who you are (for example, you can show your Facebook profile that has your photo). Please have this information ready to show at the door.

    Thanks and have fun tomorrow!

  18. carolyn says:

Hi Laura, That sounds great! We would love to help. Our public dress drive chair, Simone, would be the best one to contact. Her email address is simone@princessproject.org. Thank you!

  21. carolyn says:

Yes that is fine – you can put your best guess if you are not sure of your size. Thank you!
