Quick tips
- Planning: Gather a committee of volunteers to help plan the event. Recruit and train additional volunteers for the dress giveaway. Select a location for your giveaway that girls can get to easily. Once your dress giveaway date and location are set, create a calendar of important deadlines.
- Budget: Create a budget. Many of the event expenses can likely be donated, but be prepared for unforeseen costs, such as copying, dry-cleaning, display materials, transportation, etc.
- Publicity: Contact after-school organizations and leaders in your school district to promote the prom dress giveaway to girls. Involve girls to promote the event and advise you on what’s cool. Inform local media of your plans.
- Dresses: Approach bridal salons, retail stores and women in your community for dress and accessory donations. Encourage girls to donate their “nearly new” dresses, too. Decide where you’ll organize dresses and plan for transportation if you are giving them away at another site. And good luck!
Please contact us if you would like additional information. Because we are a 100% volunteer organization, it may take us several weeks to respond.
